Lucian Medicinal Tea (Low FODMAP, SCD, Vegan)

A fragrant medicinal tea with sweet and earthy flavors that will make your house smell incredible!

Serves: ½ gallon
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 tsp dried lemon balm (or 1 leaf of fresh broadleaf thyme aka Cuban oregano if it is available to you)*
  • ~2 inch piece fresh turmeric, peeled & sliced (optional)
  • ~3 inch piece fresh ginger, peeled & sliced
  • 8 cups water
  1. Add all ingredients to a large pot and cover with a lid. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and allow to cook for at least 30 minutes (or longer for a more potent brew). Let cool slightly before handling.
  2. When ready to serve, pour tea through a fine mesh strainer into a mug. Enjoy hot or cold. I enjoy this tea without any sweetener or milk, but you are welcome to add these if you prefer.
  3. Store tea in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Alternatively, leave the pot on the stove top for up to 3 days (without straining out solids) and reboil before serving.
*If you would prefer to purchase locally, I have seen lemon balm at Natural Grocers and at herb shops (such as The Herb Shoppe in Portland, OR & The Herb Bar in Austin, TX).
